BMICH

About This Project

At this national exhibition, CDC helped bring attention to traditional foods, indigenous crops, and value-added local products. The event created space to show how Sri Lanka’s lesser-known food heritage can contribute to nutrition, biodiversity conservation, food security, and rural livelihoods.

Focus Area Traditional foods, indigenous crops, and public awareness
Location BMICH, Colombo
Community Purpose To help people rediscover local foods and understand their value for nutrition, food security, and cultural heritage.

Rediscovering What We Already Know

Many traditional foods are disappearing from everyday diets, even though they carry nutritional, ecological, and cultural value. By presenting these foods in public spaces, CDC helps strengthen appreciation for local food heritage and the communities that protect it.

  • Participation in a national food exhibition organized by FAO and the UN GEF
  • Promotion of indigenous crops and traditional foods
  • Raising awareness on forgotten food heritage
  • Connecting biodiversity with food security and community livelihoods
